May is Mental Health Awareness Month

A woman holds her head in her hand while talking to a healthcare provider.

Just checking in—how’s everyone doing?

Take a moment to really think about that question.

Some people might immediately respond with a confident “Great!” But for many others, including possibly you, the answer may be different — and that’s perfectly okay. As the well-known saying goes, “It’s okay to not be okay.” Whether you’re dealing with a recent loss, battling anxiety or grappling with other uncertainties and confusion about life, you are not alone.

Did you know?

1 in 5 people in the U.S. face mental health challenges, and it can take an average of 11 years to properly diagnose and treat someone’s mental health condition. This long delay leaves many people in the dark, unsure of where to turn. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and Adventist Health Portland wants to recognize those who are currently struggling with their mental health.
