Teens Get Glimpse into the Healthcare Sector

Aug 7, 2023

“What if we were to start a program that introduces the kids not just to the medical part of the hospital, but to let them know that the hospital is like a city?”

That was the vision of Terry Johnsson, DMin, Vice President of Mission Integration at Adventist Health Portland, when he led the development of the Student Healthcare Leaders program. The celebrated program now gives high school students the opportunity to learn about the world of healthcare and take the next step towards their future career.

The eight-week curriculum, offered at no cost to participants, enables students to explore both medical and nonmedical career opportunities in the healthcare sector. Through hands-on experiences and connections with local healthcare professionals, students gain valuable insight into the medical field.
